Bill would allocate some $11 million in federal planning/design dollars to ‘Mississippi National Guard, Hattiesburg’

PINE BELT, Miss. (WDAM) - A federal bill that would allocate some $11 million in planning and design dollars to Hattiesburg is headed to the full Senate for a vote.
United States Senator Cindy Hyde-Smith (R-Miss.) serves on the Senate Military Construction and Veterans Affairs Appropriations Subcommittee that passed a bill with some $60 million headed for projects at Mississippi military installations.
Hyde-Smith voted “yes” Thursday for the bill she helped craft.
“Mississippians take pride in our bases and institutions that support our national defense,” she said in a release. “Those facilities are in constant need of upgrades and improvements to ensure our fighting forces are the best-trained and equipped in the world.”
If the bill eventually passes, two projects tied to “the Mississippi National Guard, Hattiesburg” would benefit greatly.
Some $6.5 million would be allocated toward the planning and design of an Army Aviation Support Facility.
About another $4.5 million would be earmarked toward the planning and design of a Readiness Center.
A list of funds allocated for Mississippi i the proposed allocations bill includes:
- $19 million for Base Supply Warehouse; Key Field, Meridian
- $14.2 million for Water Tank Storage Facility; Columbus Air Force Base
- $9 million for Naval Small Craft Instruction and Technical Training School student quarters planning and design funds; Stennis Space Center
- $6.8 million for Jet Engine Thermal Simulator, Army Engineer Research and Development Center; Vicksburg
- $6.5 million for Army Aviation Support Facility planning and design, Mississippi National Guard; Hattiesburg
- $4.5 million for Readiness Center planning and design, Mississippi National Guard; Hattiesburg.
