JACKSON, Miss. (WLBT) - Most of the magnolia state’s delegation is in agreement about the airstrike on Iran.

“The President did what the President thought was in the best interest of the country,” said Congressman Michael Guest. “And I support the President with the decision that he made.”

Guest believes the President put a lot of thought into the decision.

“If you look at the strikes that we conducted against Iran over the weekend, they were very targeted strikes, precision bombing of three of the nuclear facilities there where Iran was in the process of enriching uranium for the purpose of manufacturing nuclear weapons,” he noted.

Others weighed in via social media posts during the weekend.

“The military operations against Iran makes clear that President Trump stands firm on his word: Iran must never possess a nuclear weapon,” said Congressman Trent Kelly. “We are grateful for the courage and sacrifice of our brave men and women in uniform. May God bless them and keep them safe.”

Senator Roger Wicker currently serves as Chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee said the decision was “deliberate and correct.”

“Our commander-in-chief has made a deliberate —and correct— decision to eliminate the existential threat posed by the Iranian regime,” said Wicker. “We now have very serious choices ahead to provide security for our citizens and our allies and stability for the middle-east. Well-done to our military personnel. You’re the best!”

Shortly before the President’s ceasefire announcement Monday, Senator Cindy Hyde-Smith released this statement.

“I am actively gathering information and staying in constant communication with members of Congress and top administration officials to determine the best way to resolve ongoing hostilities in a manner that improves global security,” said Hyde-Smith. “I am very confident in President Trump’s leadership and his ability to end unnecessary acts of aggression by Iran, both directly and through its proxies, against the state of Israel and U.S. assets and interests in the region.”

The delegation’s lone Democrat Congressman Bennie Thompson posted to social media saying: “Donald Trump launched strikes on Iran without Congressional approval. I condemn this illegal act of war. This is something very serious that puts U.S. troops at risk and undermines our Constitution. We must stand against nuclear threats and dictators.”

Guest says he’s in “complete disagreement” of that assessment.

“This was not the President putting boots on the ground,” added Guest. “This was not sending our military in to conduct an invasion of a foreign country. These type of military operations are carried out across the globe by every president.”

Congressman Mike Ezell released the below statement.

“I applaud President Trump for taking bold and decisive action to eliminate Iran’s nuclear weapons capabilities,” said Ezell. “The Islamic Republic has long posed a grave threat to global stability, and this strike sends an unmistakable message: the United States will not tolerate rogue regimes developing weapons of mass destruction.

For decades, Iran’s leaders have openly chanted ‘Death to America’ while funding terrorism and threatening our allies. Those words are not just rhetoric-they represent a dangerous agenda that must be taken seriously.

This operation not only protects our national security interests, but also strengthens the safety of our allies in the Middle East-especially Israel-and helps secure a more stable future for the region. I am proud to stand with President Trump and our military for taking swift and necessary steps to defend peace through strength."
