HYDE-SMITH VOTES WITH SENATE TO CONFIRM CHAMBERLIN AS U.S. DISTRICT COURT JUDGE

Chamberlin Confirmation the First of Two Mississippi Judgeships the Senate Will Consider this Week

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Cindy Hyde-Smith (R-Miss.) today issued the following statement regarding the 51-46 vote in the U.S. Senate to confirm Mississippi Supreme Court Justice Robert P. Chamberlin of Hernando to serve on the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Mississippi:

“I’m pleased the Senate has confirmed Justice Chamberlin to serve on the U.S. District Court.  His record on the bench in Mississippi as well as his community service make him very qualified to serve on the federal judiciary, which is why President Trump nominated him.  I congratulate him and wish him every success in continuing to serve the people of Mississippi.”

On Tuesday afternoon, the Senate also approved a procedural motion to move forward with the nomination of Mississippi Supreme Court Justice James D. Maxwell II of Oxford, who was also nominated in August for a seat the U.S. District Court on the Northern District of Mississippi.  Maxwell’s Senate confirmation could occur this week.
