HYDE-SMITH PRAISES CONFIRMATION OF OXFORD'S JAMES MAXWELL TO SERVE ON U.S. DISTRICT COURT
Maxwell’s Confirmation Represents Second Mississippi Trump Judicial Pick Confirmed on Tuesday
WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Cindy Hyde-Smith (R-Miss.) today issued the following statement marking the Senate confirmation of Mississippi Supreme Court Justice James D. Maxwell II of Oxford to serve as a judge on the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Mississippi:
“I’m extremely pleased with the confirmation of Justice James Maxwell to serve as a U.S. District Court judge. As he has done on the Mississippi Supreme Court and throughout his career as a jurist, James will continue to exemplify a dedication to careful, principled jurisprudence and to upholding the rule of law. I believe he will serve the Northern District of Mississippi and our nation with distinction.”
Maxwell was confirmed on a 51-46 vote. His elevation followed the confirmation Tuesday morning of Mississippi Supreme Court Justice Robert P. Chamberlin of Hernando to also serve on the court.
President Trump nominated Maxwell and Chamberlin to be federal judges in August and the Senate Judiciary Committee advanced the nominees for Senate consideration in November following a September confirmation hearing for both Mississippi judges.
