HYDE-SMITH REPORTS ALMOST $60 MILLION APPROVED FOR DISASTER RECOVERY IN MISS.

FEMA Public Assistance Grants Associated with Winter Storm Fern, Tropical Storm Arthur Recovery

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Cindy Hyde-Smith (R-Miss.) today reported the approval of almost $60 million in grant awards to reimburse dozens of Mississippi counties, cities, and organizations for recovery efforts from Winter Storm Fern.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) approved 37 different Public Assistance grants associated with Winter Storm Fern recovery work, as well as one grant to Lincoln County for damage caused during Tropical Storm Arthur.  Both national disasters earned presidential major disaster designations.

"The significant level of funding released in this tranche of grants reflects the severity of the massive ice storm that crippled a large swath of Mississippi earlier this year.  These funds will offset what was spent on everything from debris removal and utility restoration to security fence repairs.  I appreciate the administration approving these funds so that these communities and the state can square their books and continue remaining recovery work,” said Hyde-Smith, who serves on the Senate appropriations subcommittee that funds FEMA.

Under the FEMA Public Assistance program, the grants cover 75 percent of project costs.  The following is a review of $59,828,644 in grant funding approved for Mississippi:
