
Senator Hyde-Smith, a cattle farmer and the former Mississippi Commissioner of Agriculture and Commerce, understands the importance of the state’s $7.5 billion agricultural and forestry industries. (March 19 to August 15, 2025, the USDA Farm Service Agency is issuing up to $10 billion in direct payments to eligible agricultural producers of eligible commodities for the 2024 crop year through the Emergency Commodity Assistance Program. Senator Hyde-Smith fought to get this assistance enacted in December 2024. These one-time economic assistance payments will help eligible commodity producers in Mississippi mitigate the impacts of increased input costs and falling commodity prices.
