ESSAY: WOMEN WON THE RIGHT TO VOTE 100 YEARS AGO & CONTINUE TO MAKE PROGRESS

NOTE:  U.S. Senator Cindy Hyde-Smith (R-Miss.) was invited to submit this essay to the Smithsonian Institution as part of its commemoration of the 100th anniversary of the 19th Amendment, which gave women the right to vote.  As part of the National Museum of American History’s “Creating Icons: How We Remember Woman Suffrage” exhibit, Hyde-Smith was asked to reflect on what this anniversary means to her and the future.  The essay will be available on the Smithsonian website on Aug. 18, 2020.
