MAGEE, Miss. (WDAM) - Hospital administrators, medical staff and local leaders were celebrating a multi-million dollar renovation of Magee General Hospital.

A ribbon-cutting and open house was held Friday to showcase all that was done with that $4 million project, which was funded by a federal grant from the Health Resources and Services Administration.

“Sen. (Cindy) Hyde-Smith helped shepherd us through the process of receiving a HRSA grant,” said Gregg Gibbes, Magee General Hospital chief executive officer.

“This hospital has certainly benefited from that. We do surgery every day here and for us to be able to have a newly-remodeled suite here is going to help create a lot of sustainability for us going forward.”

The work included renovation of three surgical suites, new pre-operative and post-operative areas, a new patient registration area, and new conference room.

Wayfinding throughout the hospital was also updated.

“As we’re looking into the future, as we look at the ‘One Big Beautiful Bill Act,’ we’ve got the Rural Transformation Fund out there and we hope and believe there will be plenty of opportunity for other hospitals as well for us to other things here,” Gibbes said.

Magee General Hospital, which employs about 225, opened in 1936.
