Mississippi extends duck hunting season

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - The Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks recently extended the dates for duck hunting season and added special hunting dates for youths, veterans and active duty military.

MDWFP revealed the changes in its May newsletter. Duck hunting season will now extend to Jan. 30, 2020, rather than the last Sunday in January.

Youth, veterans and active military will now be able to duck hunt on Nov. 16, 2019 and Feb. 8, 2020.

The full migratory game bird hunting season dates for 2019-2020 can be found here.

The hunting season changes were possible after President Donald Trump signed the Natural Resources Management Act in March.

The bill contained a provision that allows states to extend duck hunting season dates and add special hunting dates for youth, military and veterans. The provision was based on a bill authored by Sen. Cindy Hyde-Smith.
