HYDE-SMITH STATEMENT FOLLOWING DOBBS ORAL ARGUMENTS IN SUPREME COURT

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Cindy Hyde-Smith (R-Miss.) today issued the following statement after the U.S. Supreme Court heard oral arguments on the constitutionality of the Mississippi law that bans most abortions after 15 weeks:

“I will take time to more closely study the arguments in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization, but I am cautiously optimistic.  The lawyers representing Mississippi presented a compelling case that Roe v. Wade was wrong in creating a constitutional ‘right’ to end the lives of the unborn.

“The justices of the Supreme Court must make difficult choices, and I pray they will be open to the legal and moral arguments against Roe v. Wade and will decide to uphold a legally-sound Mississippi law that affirms the sanctity of life and the rights of unborn children.”

Hyde-Smith on Wednesday participated in a pro-life rally on the steps of the Supreme Court, and spoke at events Tuesday for the pro-life position represented by the state of Mississippi in the Dobbs case.
