Hyde-Smith: ‘My heart is broken’ after death of US Capitol police officer

JACKSON, Miss. (WLBT) - U.S. Senator Cindy Hyde-Smith (R-MS) issued a statement Friday on the death of U.S. Capitol Police Officer Brian D. Sicknick.
He died on Thursday after being injured by pro-Trump supporters as they stormed the nation’s Capitol on Wednesday in protest of Joe Biden’s certification as President. According to the Associated Press, Sicknick was hit in the head with a fire extinguisher during the riots.
In a tweet, Senator Hyde-Smith said she is heartbroken for Sicknick’s family and other fellow officers.
“My heart is broken for United States Capitol Police Officer Brian D. Sicknick’s family and fellow officers. We owe a debt of gratitude to the force, and everyone who put themselves in harm’s way to protect the first branch of our government on Wednesday. Praying hard for healing.” Senator Cindy Hyde-Smith
Sicknick is the fifth person to die because of the violence.
