Contract awarded to build helicopters at Columbus plant

COLUMBUS, Miss. (WTVA) -- The U. S. Army awarded a contract to purchase helicopters built in Columbus.

Sen. Roger Wicker and Cindy Hyde-Smith announced the $122.6 million contact for Airbus Helicopter.

The company will build 15 UH-72 Lakota Light Utility Helicopters for the U. S. Army.

The aircraft will be delivered by August 31, 2022.

Airbus Helicopter has built and delivered over 200 Lakotas to the military since the Columbus plant opened 15 years ago.
