Cassidy, Colleagues Introduce Legislation to Protect Children from Sex Crimes, Strengthen Parents’ Rights

Staff Report

WASHINGTON— U.S. Senator Bill Cassidy, M.D. today joined 14 Senate colleagues in introducing the Child Interstate Abortion Notification Act, legislation making it a crime to knowingly perform an abortion on a child from out of state without the consent and notification of a parent.

The bill also prohibits individuals who have committed incest from taking a minor across states lines in order to obtain an abortion.

“Sex traffickers and child abusers shouldn’t be able to get away with their vile crimes with the help of abortion businesses,” said Sen. Cassidy, R-La.. “Parents also have a right to know before their child undergoes a medical procedure as invasive as an abortion. This bill will protect children from being victimized and strengthen the right of every parent to know what is happening to their child.”

The legislation was also introduced by U.S. Senators Marco Rubio, R-Fla.; Roy Blunt, R-Mo; Cindy Hyde-Smith, R-Miss; Jim Risch, R-Idaho.; Josh Hawley, R-Mo.; James Inhofe, R-Okla.; James Lankford, R-Mo., Pat Roberts, R-Kan.; Mike Enzi, R-Wyo.; Joni Ernst, R-Iowa; Deb Fischer, R-Neb., and Kevin Cramer, R-N.D.
