Contract awarded for border protection helicopters to be built in MS

WASHINGTON, DC - On Wednesday, U.S Senator Cindy Hyde-Smith applauded the award of a $45.9 million U.S. Department of Homeland Security procurement contract for custom and border protection helicopters that will be built in Mississippi. 
 
The seven Light Enforcement Helicopters will be produced at the Airbus plant in Columbus, according to a news release from Hyde-Smith.

Eight more safe rooms are on the way to Petal and Forrest County schools, as state officials recently announced the approval of $7.3 million to fund the construction of the rooms around the school districts.

Tupelo FD awarded FEMA grant

TUPELO – Friday the 13th was not bad luck for the Tupelo Fire Department, as the department was notified it would receive a long-awaited Assistance to Firefighters Grant.
 
The $72,749 grant from the Federal Emergency Management Agency will allow the city to install advanced source capture exhaust systems at six fire stations to reduce the harmful effects of diesel exhaust fumes.

Southaven Fire gets federal grant

The Southaven Fire Department will be using federal money to help make two of its fire stations safer with the eventual goal of doing the same thing at all of the city fire stations. 
 
Southaven joined Columbus and Tupelo fire departments in receiving a grant from the Federal Emergency Management Agency under the FY2017 Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) Program.

$7.6M in FEMA grants make Mississippi safer

U.S. Senators Roger Wicker, Cindy Hyde-Smith, and Congressman Steven Palazzo announced the approval of $7.3 million to construct eight additional safe rooms in Forrest County. An additional award of$331,989 in FEMA grants will be given to the Columbus, Southaven, and Tupelo fire departments to install exhaust capture systems in their fire stations.
