U.S. Senator Hyde-Smith making impact in Forrest County

FORREST COUNTY, MS (WDAM) - U.S. Senator Cindy Hyde-Smith stopped by the Forrest County Board of Supervisors meeting Monday morning.
 
The board thanked her for her work in getting Forrest County and Petal Schools one step closer to having safe rooms. Hyde-Smith stepped in and got eight out of 10 rooms approved for the bidding process, and is working on two more.

Pine Belt airports get grants for fence upgrades

WASHINGTON – Three local area airports will get some federal grant money for upgrades, U.S. Sens. Roger Wicker, Cindy Hyde-Smith and Congressman Steven Palazzo announced last week.

A total of $9.77 million for improvements to 20 airports across the state will be awarded by the U.S. Department of Transportation on behalf of the Federal Aviation Administration.

Mississippi fire departments get federal grants
 
WASHINGTON (WTOK)- U.S. Senators Roger Wicker, R-Miss., and Cindy Hyde-Smith, R-Miss., today announced the award of $851,954 in FEMA grants to fire departments in Columbus, Biloxi, Hattiesburg, Senatobia, Laurel, Bentonia, and Woodville. The grants are being awarded as part of the Fiscal Year 2017 Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) Program.

The program was set to expire at midnight. The four-month extension does not include reforms, something Senator Wicker called for his colleagues to consider in order the keep the program financially sustainable.
